Summer Storms
Summer in Grand Lake offers the best of all worlds - plenty of sunshine, cool breeze and no humidity. The summer is the most popular time of year with may options for water recreation, hiking, fishing or just relaxing. In the higher altitudes especially in Rocky Mountain National Park, there is a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. If caught in a storm, it’s best to be below the tree line when lightning is near and seek shelter under a shorter group of trees. High altitudes also mean greater risk for sunburn, so wear sunscreen!
Fall Colors
Fall foliage can begin as early as late August, but mid-September is prime time to see the colors and watch for the elk rutting season at the park. One of the best ways to experience the fall colors is taking a scenic drive in and around Grand Lake. The overall fall season has minimal precipitation and dropping temperatures which can have early snowfall at times.
Winter Snowfall
The winter season typically starts at the beginning or mid-November setting the scene for plenty of outdoor fun with snowmobiling, ice fishing and cross country skiing. This is a slower time of year in the Grand Lake area and you will be able to enjoy the outdoors and a quieter downtown area to enjoy a peaceful getaway.
